I watched a Dr. Oz segment on another diet plan developed by Chris Powell from ABC’s ‘Extreme Makeover’ Weight Loss Edition'. This is an interesting plan that utilizes carb cycling, similar to the 17 Day Diet's second cycle. Here is an article that outlines Powell's plan and a video of the Dr. Oz show where Powell recommends an easy and effective move he calls the "burpee".

I'm going to consider some of his concepts too, and incorporate twenty "burpees" to my daily exercise routine. I just did twenty and whoa!....they are amazingly challenging!
I think it has potential
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how much dietary fat is allowed on the High carb days and how much (minimum / maximum) is recommended on Low carb days (per meal? per day)?
ReplyDeleteThe 17 Day Diet guidelines allow 1 to 2 tablespoons of "friendly" fats, such as olive oil or flaxseed oil per day (all cycles). You will see this listed in the accelerate cycle chapter (page 46 in my book).
ReplyDeleteThe plan requires that you use lean cuts of meats, removing skin and trimming fat.
This friendly fat allowance comes in handy when preparing a meal (cooking lean chicken, etc) or when preparing a salad (check your salad dressing to make sure it is made with healthy oils). And Dr. Mike's Smoothie recipe calls for a tablespoon of flaxseed oil. Most of the time, though, I use spray Olive Oil when I cook. It works great and I don't like greasy food. Hope that answers your question. :)
I am following the low-med-high carb cycling diet. On a low carb day 48 carbs...med carb day 80...high carb day 143. Fat 29 gram of good fat per day and 143 grams of protein per day. I have learned that the carbs, protein, and fats is based on your LBM (lean body mass).. I started at 24% bodyfat and now I am 14.9% Weight 115. I am 49 years old. I have never felt better in my life. Of course, I workout 6 days a week and off on Sunday. I accomplished my goals without 16 weeks.
ReplyDeleteI have a question and I'm hoping someone can help. Do you eat low carbs one day and high carbs the next for 6 days and take a break on the 7th or, do you eat low carbs for 6 days take a break on the 7th day and eat high carbs for 6 days and take a break on 7th day. Thanks in advance
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand ...you alternate days...so it's high carb the first low carb the second and so on for 6 days then eat anything (within reason) the 7th day.
DeleteHow well does this diet work for vegetarians?
ReplyDeleteYou do low carb one day, high carb the next then the 7th day is your "free" day. Only during the "slingshot phase" do you have high carb days for an entire week.
ReplyDeleteHis book is out in the stores now and should answer any any all questions about the plan. I just read it and it seems pretty straight forward.
ReplyDeleteWhat days do you eat fruits high carbs days only or anytime?
ReplyDeleteYou can also sign up for his online carb cycling program ReshapetheNation.com. I started using it a couple of months ago and it's fairly easy to follow, plus there are a lot of other people on the site to follow along with.
ReplyDeleteHi there would you mind sharing which blog platform you're using? I'm going to start
ReplyDeletemy own blog in the near future but I'm having a tough time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something completely unique.
